Labana Clans

The people of Labana tribe are divided into 11 clans,〔Dr Jaswant Singh,Panjab di Lubana Bradri,(1849-1947)〕 or ''Gotras'': The Kundlas, Sandlas, Bhaarot, Bashak, Kochal, Kolach, Laslas, Kachap, Vashisht, Bishpl, and Altarays. These Gotras are divided into subclans called ''Alh'' (ਅੱਲ). Lobana people prefer their Alh names over their Gotra names as their surnames.〔Lubana Sewak, Regd:32212/78, September 2012〕 Alh are also called ''Moohis''.
The Labana Gotra names are derived from places, profession, ritual and prominent personalities; for example, the Multani Lobanas were named for Multan City when they came to the Punjab region during Nadir Shah's invasion of India in 1739.〔
After partition of India, new gots of displaced lobana become popular which were basically from name of their villages and districts like Tibbewale, Sadhie, Dolnie, Lyallpurie etc. The Gotras which considered to be infierier got changed to name of settlements which makes them feel less inferior. Gotras like Ghotra, Multani, Pelia considered themselves superior compare to Gotras of Gujjar and Khasariyas.〔Page 34, THE LUBANAS OF PUNJAB, Researcher: Kamaljit Singh〕 The Makhanshahi clan is considered as sacred and holy clan.
